About Boy Scout Troop 224

We at Troop 224 are glad you are considering joining our extended Scouting family. We have prepared this section to give you an idea of who we are and what we do. A complete welcome package will be provided if you and your son decide to join our troop. We in Troop 224 try our best to adhere to the highest standards and ideals of Scouting. Our Chartering Organization is St. Edward Catholic Church in western Pembroke Pines.

The troop is "boy-led", meaning the Scouts make most of the decisions and troop plans under the watchful eye of the Scoutmaster. We have strong parental involvement in our Troop Committee, which generally meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month when the boys meet. We meet at the Southwest Ranches Equestrian Park. The Senior Patrol Leader will assign the new Scout to a patrol as soon as he joins our troop. The new Scout's parents/sponsors will be expected to join our Troop Committee as functioning and productive members. We are well funded and well organized and look forward to your active involvement.

We camp or attend a different outdoor activity at least once per month, rain or shine, year-round, embracing both "close-in" camping and backpack camping. There is a flat fee for each camping event that includes campsite fees and food. Sometimes the fees and food cost the troop more and sometimes less. We have a well-stocked troop trailer and attend many South Florida Council and Seminole District functions during the year, as well as annual summer camp. The troop conducts three Court of Honor award ceremonies each year to recognize each Scout's achievements in a timely manner. We have an adult patrol open to all parents called "The Wise Ones". Our past activities include camping throughout Florida, summer camp throughout the Southeast United States, and attendance at the National Scout Jamboree.

We see our role as providing guidance and structure in such a way as to prepare our Scouts "to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law", which will allow the boys to develop into young men we will all be proud of.
